Farm to Early Care and Education

New Name, Same Commitment to Kids

As the National Farm to School Network continues its commitment to connect children ages 0-5 to local foods and high quality educational opportunities through food based activities, we are updating the official language we use to talk about this important and exciting work. Our initiatives focused on these littlest eaters are now referred to as farm to early care and education (ECE).

While preschool typically refers only to children ages 3-4, early care and education is more inclusive of all types of ECE environments (e.g., child care centers, family child care homes, Head Starts, preschools). This language shift better conveys the potential of farm to school principles to provide high quality learning opportunities and to enhance health and wellness in all ECE environments.

Over the coming year, we’ll be expanding our ECE work by releasing national survey data, launching new resources and building stronger ECE partnerships.
